December 2008 Happy holidays from all of us at Resources for Community Development! This is a time of year when we gather together with family and friends and give thanks for the many good people who are a part of our lives. It’s a particularly wonderful time to share with our residents as they gather with staff and volunteers for holiday celebrations – to share a meal together and reminisce about the year (or years) gone by and share dreams for the coming year. We’re very proud of the contributions that our residents make to the community. For instance, there are two residents who are currently enrolled in a peer leadership course offered in the community. The series includes a number of workshops and a commitment to act as Peer Health Educators. In this role, they will go back to the community to educate folks about the HIV/AIDS virus. At another property, five residents recently graduated from La Clinica’s “Health Promoters” training, a series of eight 2-hour classes offered on-site in the community room. These graduates bring the gift of better health to many families and inspire us all to work together to build community. We hope you will find renewed inspiration to make a difference. In tough economic times, the urgent need for affordable housing comes into focus as more people lose their homes. For 25 years RCD has been helping people help themselves. Please consider making a donation to ensure that we will be able to meet the growing need this year. And finally, we would like to say thank you for your support of RCD and our mission – to create and preserve affordable housing for those with the fewest options, to build community and enrich lives.
