Grand Opening of The Breakers at Bayport Apartments Contact: Shauna Porteus (510) 841-4410 ext. 11 Resources for Community Development opens a new affordable housing development in Bayport Alameda. The 87-acre master-planned community will include 485 residential units built by ProLogis and Warmington Home California, a four-acre neighborhood park, a seven-acre school, and four 1/2 acre mini-parks. Located between Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway and Tinker Avenue, The Breakers at Bayport Apartments and Townhomes consists of 52 residential units serving low-income families, and 10 affordable for-sale townhomes serving moderate-income families. The 52-unit development is fully leased, and sales of the 10 townhomes project will be finalized in August. The apartment complex consists of 34 two-bedrooms and 18 three-bedroom apartments, with community and recreational space located on-site. The townhomes are all three-bedroom units with over 1,450 square feet of living space. The rental units are reserved for very low- and low-income families earning between 35-60% of the area median income. The for-sale component of the project is for first-time homebuyers earning up to 100% of area median income. Four of the rental units are universally designed making the environments more usable by as many people as possible, regardless of age, ability or situation, and without the need for adaptation or specialized design. "We are delighted to have worked with the City of Alameda on such a beautiful development,” remarks Dan Sawislak, executive director of Resources for Community Development. “"This housing provides critically needed family rental and first-time homebuyer housing in Alameda." Resources for Community Development's multi-lingual Resident Services staff will work directly with residents during weekly onsite office hours and monthly community meetings to provide community development programs and service referrals. The coordinators link residents with school information, public safety resources and service providers in the community to find services and activities that meet the individual needs of each resident from money management to mental health support. Funding for this project was provided by the City of Alameda, the County of Alameda, the Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program, California Housing Finance Agency, Tax Credit Allocation Committee, State Multifamily Housing Program, and the Bank of Alameda.
